Dear Fellow Families of Crestview Heights,
We would like to begin by sharing our sincerest thank you for your trust and patience as we took on the air quality issues at CVH together with you and the Lincoln County School District. Your input, shared experiences, and knowledge helped shape how we as a group conducted research and explored the data to decide how to move forward throughout this process.
We recently received the report from G2 Consultants and are pleased to report the following summary of findings:
• The six devices utilized during the investigation recorded no levels of CO over 0.0 parts per million (ppm) during the approximately five-day sampling duration.
• Results indicate that concentrations of the six identified compounds in the VOC sampling were below their respective regulatory Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs) established by Oregon Occupational Safety and Health (OR-OSHA) and recommended Threshold Limit Values (TLVs) established by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH).
• Results of the aldehyde sampling identified formaldehyde at concentrations below the respective regulatory and recommended occupational exposure limits established by OR-OSHA and ACGIH. No other aldehydes were found to be present from the samples.
• Carbon Dioxide levels inside of the building were all between 300-500 ppm during the two site visits.
The report explains that, within the parameters of the assessment, no indoor environmental quality issues were identified. Our take away from the G2 report is that there are no indications of any continuing air quality issues at CVH.
We wish to be clear that we do not doubt the experiences of those who had negative symptoms, and hope that each individual sought professional care if they experienced those symptoms. Our understanding is that there were numerous affirmative actions taken when the boiler issues began occurring in January 2019, and we believe that a combination of those efforts have led to the air quality issues being resolved. The affirmative actions taken include boiler repairs by LCSD, IEQ investigation by PBS Engineering and Environmental at the request of LCSD, OSHA investigation at the request of LCSD, involvement of the Lincoln County Health Department, an IEQ investigation by G2 Consultants as the request of the CVH Parent Group, and a thorough review of CVH policies, procedures, and practices.
While we may not know what the exact cause of the air quality issues may have been, nor do we know what action led to the resolution, we find comfort in knowing that there does not seem to be any ongoing issue at this time.
