Oregon Legislature puts tax hike for schools on January ballot.
Oregon legislative democrats are trying to head-off a republican move to kill a big revenue raising tax hike on Oregon businesses that passed just before the close of the now adjourned session. A major part of a billion dollars in new tax revenue would go for public education from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. Many lawmakers say Oregon is not properly investing in its kids and test scores prove it. Yet the republicans contend the money shouldn’t come from higher business taxes.
