Newport Drum Circle traveling north for the Fourth

The Newport Community Drum Circle will be traveling north this year to participate in the 25th Gleneden Beach Fourth of July Celebration.

“We’ll be joining in a daylong celebration packed with a well-known parade and an all-day Street Fair with musical choices and activities for all ages, and we’ll be bringing our unique brand of all-ages participatory entertainment to Gleneden Beach for the first time,” said Drum Circle leader Chandler Davis.

Members of the Drum Circle’s Thunder & Lightness World Beat Ensemble and Ocean Thunder Drummers will perform from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (with a break from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. for the parade) in the parking lot of Dr. Vinod Vinjamuri Internal Medicine along the parade route at 6615 Gleneden Beach Loop.

The performance will be linked to a special all ages open drum circle with supplied seating, loaner drums, and rhythm toys to encourage audience participation. Davis said the drumming will be supervised and lightly facilitated and no musical experience is needed. “If we get a good groove going together, I might just turn the whole performance over to the group!”

For details on the drumming, contact Davis at 541-272-4615 or chandler@chandlerdavis.com
