NSO’s 30th Anniversary Season Finish – Swan Lake Suite Plus a Tribute to David Ogden Stiers!
“Fairy Tale Finish” is the theme performed by the Newport Symphony Orchestra at the Ocean this Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:00pm at the Performing Arts Center.
Music Director Adam Flatt leads Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite in the finale to the Pearl Anniversary season, in which the orchestra celebrates its thirty years of symphonic music making on the Coast.
The performance also includes Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and the premiere of a new composition by Mark Fish dedicated to the late David Ogden Stiers, the Symphony’s Resident Conductor for many years. The work, titled “Bless Your Heart,” was inspired by Stiers’s frequent use of that expression. “Bless Your Heart” was a thirtieth anniversary commission of the Newport Symphony Orchestra.
Mark Fish is a San Francisco Bay Area composer who has had works performed in venues including Carnegie Hall. His most successful work has been Ferdinand the Bull, which exists as both a chamber work and an orchestral work, and has been narrated in concert by David Ogden Stiers.
Performances are this Saturday at 7:30p.m. with a pre-concert talk by Conductor Adam Flatt at 6:45p.m. Sunday’s performance commences at 2:00p.m. Following each concert the NSO will again feature a special complimentary Wine Down featuring select wines from the Flying Dutchman Winery of Otter Rock plus a delicious array of food items. Stay and mingle with Adam and our orchestra members.
