Newport Fire-Rescue has been combing the beach south of the Newport Jettys and the Coast Guard is surveying the area from the air on a report of someone(s) in distress. After searching for about an hour, they have haven’t come up with anything. Newport Fire is returning to base, but the Coast Guard helo crew will be looking a little longer for any signs of life in the water. The original report indicated that a parawindsailor was having some troubles but it appears it was a false alarm.
It’s nice to have the Coast Guard on 24/7 watch!
