Do you know your body mass index, your blood pressure, or whether you are a candidate for osteoporosis? Learn
your numbers and what they mean with free health screenings during the Healthier You Expo on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Center for Health Education, 740 SW Ninth St., Newport. Knowing your health numbers is a great step toward improving your health and reducing your risk for disease
“Information is power, and sometimes all you need to get on a healthier path is to know where you’re starting from,” said Amy Conner, health resource coordinator at the Center for Health Education. “These screenings give participants good baseline information, and where they go with those results is up to them. But we hope they’ll choose a healthy way forward.”
The third annual health fair, sponsored by Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital, will offer attendees 10 free health tests, which include screenings for bone density, body composition, lung health, blood pressure, posture analysis, vision/glaucoma, blood glucose levels (requires a three-hour fast), hearing, dental issues and balance and leg strength.
More than 30 booths will offer health information on such issues as addiction and recovery, sleep disorders, disaster preparedness, HIV testing, physical therapy, exercise and much more. Attendees can also safely dispose of no longer needed prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, enjoy food samples, get a chair massage, and meet with a specialist to help them find a local provider for their health care. Non-perishable food items are being collected for Food Share of Lincoln County.
The Healthier You Expo is completely free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Center for Health Education, the parking lot to the north of the Center and on nearby streets.
