The Newport City Council will hold a Town Hall Meeting for residents, business owners, and other interested persons to talk about the new Big Creek Dam project. The town hall meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 29th at 6:00 P.M., at the Newport Water Treatment Plant. The Water Treatment Plant is located at 2810 NE Big Creek Road, Newport.
The agenda includes an overview of the current status of the dams which Keith Mills, Oregon Dam Safety Engineer, says are two of the worst high-hazard dams in Oregon.
Tim Gross, Newport Public Works Director, will conduct a PowerPoint presentation on the city’s water supply, the vulnerability of the dams, potential solutions, estimated costs, possible funding sources, and a replacement timeline.
Following the Town Hall meeting, city staff will provide tours of the city’s state-of-the-art water treatment facility.
The City Council periodically schedules Town Hall Meetings on months that contain a fifth Monday. These meetings provide an opportunity to meet City Councilors in a relaxed setting.
