The following letter, from an 11 year old girl, was sent to the Newport City Council on the issue of banning single use plastic bags within the city limits.
Dear City Council And Mayor,
My gratitude goes to you guys for making the earth better by getting it clean and healthy. My class also thanks you for doing this too. The plastic bag ban has been part of our goal for the whole year, now we have finally done it! It’s important to me cause I care about animals and they’re part of this plastic impact. Our class will stick too this subject for the rest of the year. Maybe even some of us including me will keep it for our whole lives.
I have learned how lovely it feels when you know our taking impact on saving the earth. I have done what no one thought could be done by a 5th grader. Thanks to you guys that happened. So I just wanted to thank you.
Through my speaking and essays, I have banned plastic bags with your help so this is a very big thank you because you guys deserve it so very much. I’m glad i was partnered with you for this term. Hopefully we will meet and figure out other problems later on in life or in the next year or two. Maybe someday I will even be on the city council with you guys!
