Sam Case Elementary school is soon to receive a new reader board thanks, in part, to a significant donation from Big Foot Beverages. Due to the old sign being installed with help from parents, the school wanted to give a bit of background and gratitude prior to its removal.
The current sign was installed in the Spring of 1997 through money raised by the Booster Club and a personal donation from Bill Gumplein which made up the funding difference. Many fundraisers including clam chowder feeds, gift-wrap, coffee, donut sales, plus an individual donation, allowed for the purchase of the sign through the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. Board member Liz Martin recalls, “A whole group came together because we knew this was an important way to communicate with the parents and community about school events. We also used the reader board to put a positive word of the month offering an uplifting thought to all who passed by. It makes my heart proud each time I drive by and see the sign but recognize the need for a more up-dated sign for our beloved Sam Case.”
Sam Case School Principal Shelley Moore said she wanted the old sign honored because “It’s really important that students and the community know about this lovely act of giving. We are saving one part of the sign that we plan to creatively re-purpose. The new sign should be here soon as a reader board still continues to serve as an important means of communication to this day.”
