Everywhere in Oregon, but mostly in urban areas, housing rents have skyrocketed largely due to slow progress on building new houses and apartments. Some blame the construction industry claiming they’re getting bigger and bigger profits and so they’re in no hurry to build any faster.
But perhaps the Oregon Legislature is finally doing something about it. A bill has been introduced that would slap a cap on annual rent increases and remove a landlord’s right to evict anyone or any family for no cause.
