The Newport Symphony Orchestra at the Ocean, Yaquina Art Association Photographers and Lincoln County 4-H announce a unique collaboration to be showcased in symphony performances on September 21 and 22, 2019, called “Coastal Vistas”.
The Newport Symphony will perform music at the Newport Performing Arts Center choreographed with projected images created by Lincoln County residents. A stunning visual concerto will be performed from the music of Aaron Copland, featuring iconic images of the central Oregon coast taken by local residents, including images by youth photographers from throughout the county.
Over the next several months, the public (both youth and adults) are invited to submit photos of our region which will be featured during the concert. Photos must be iconic images of the Central Oregon Coast or show the lives of people who live and work here. Dynamic images reflecting active ‘at work’ and ‘at play’ are ideal to reflect the movements presented by the Orchestra. Inspirations for photos can be found anywhere; spectacular beaches, the hardworking fishing fleet, unique landmarks, coastal activities, the arts, the possibilities are endless. The only requirement is that images must be captured along the Central Oregon Coast, the Yaquina Bay estuary, and towns in the region. Deadline for submission is May 15, 2019. To submit images, visit NewportSymphony.org.
In preparation for this extraordinary event, Yaquina Art Association Photographers and Lincoln County 4-H are hosting a series of workshops for young people (ages 8 and up), teaching the art of photography composition, allowing youths to develop their skills and later showcasing those skills at the September event. These courses fulfill 4-H’s guiding principles of positive youth development, partnership, learning and youth potential.
