Classical Music Lovers! It’s all right here in Newport!

The famed Delgani String Quartet of Eugene will be performing in concert along with the Cascade Quartet of Grants Pass High School on Saturday, February 9, 7:00pm at Newport Nazarene Church located at 227 NW 12th in Newport

It is the final of three free Winter Series Concerts sponsored by the Oregon Coast Youth Symphony Festival. Considered “the state’s finest chamber ensemble” by Oregon Arts Watch, the Delgani String Quartet presents exciting performances of both classical and contemporary repertoire. The Quartet curates their own series in Portland, Salem, and Eugene while regularly appearing as guest artists throughout Oregon. The Delgani String Quartet has also performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and at Charles University in Prague. The Quartet features Wyatt True and Jannie Wei, violins; Kimberlee Uwate, viola; and Eric Alterman, cello. Guest cellist for this performance will be Charlie Jarvis, student at Grants Pass High School. The Quartet will be performing Franz Schubert’s Quartettsatz and Franz Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in D Major, Op. 76 No. 5.

Opening the program on Saturday will be the Cascade String Quartet from Grants Pass High School. The Cascade String Quartet features Camille Schaafsma and Sean Bullock, violin; Julianne Burdis, viola; and Charlie Jarvis, cello. These talented teenagers will open the evening’s program with Brandenburg Concert No. 3 composed by J.S. Bach and Quartet in F Major, Op. 96 “The American” by Antonin Dvorak.

Admission to this concert is free but donations are gratefully accepted at the door. This evening’s concert is made possible by a grant from the Oregon Cultural Trust.
The concert is the last of three 2018-2019 Winter Series Concerts presented by the Oregon Coast Youth Symphony Festival. These three concerts provide an opportunity for small ensembles of talented high school students to perform in front of a live audience – beyond their home town.

The Delgani String Quartet was formed in 2014 with a mission to cultivate an appreciation for chamber music through distinctive performance, innovative programming, educational engagement, and collaboration. The members of the Quartet collectively hold twelve degrees in string performance from various schools of music and conservatories across the nation.
