Groundhog Day: Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow around 7:30am ET this morning and did not see his shadow, predicting an early spring. “Faithful followers, there is no shadow of me and a beautiful spring it shall be,” a member of Phil’s Inner Circle read from the groundhog’s prediction scroll to cheers from the crowd gathered on Gobbler’s Knob. In 132 years, Phil has not seen his shadow only 18 times. He’s not too accurate, either. According to the National Weather Service, Phil has gotten the prognostication right only about 40% of the time.
