Artist Dave Waite, from Siletz Bay
“I was both honored and delighted to be selected as the PAAG featured artist for February” said Dave Waite, whose work is self described as “photo abstraction”. He will be at the Pacific Artist Alliance Gallery in person, on February 22, 23rd and 24th.
Waite’s pieces are bold, colorful and highly textured. Nearly all are derived from the large trees which have been driven into the recesses of Siletz Bay by decades of winter storms.
“I am moved by the images that I see in nature. My mind wanders to another place. I love to evoke the same feelings within the viewer as well. I want to offer a “rose” for the viewer to stop and enjoy.”
Waite grew up on Long Island, but moved to Oregon over 35 years ago. He and his wife raised their four children in Beaverton.
When all of his children had moved into their own lives, Waite, the former acrylic painter and guitarist turned to photography. He also started to develop his distinctive abstractionist techniques.
Waite’s unique pieces, along with the work of more than 30 other local artists, can be seen at the Pacific Artist Alliance Gallery. The Gallery is located at 620 N. E. Highway 101 across from the Lincoln City Cultural Center. The gallery is open from 10 AM to 5 PM daily.
