The operation is to raise pedestrian safety awareness. Using a decoy pedestrian, police aim to raise awareness of drivers through education and enforcement of pedestrian right of way laws. The operation will be conducted on Thursday, February 7th, between the hours of 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Warning signs will be posted prior to entering the pedestrian safety operation zone.
As a reminder, safety and courtesy go hand in hand with pedestrian crossings. Pedestrians should always exercise due caution when stepping into marked or unmarked crosswalks and to stay observant and cautious while crossing the roadway. Drivers should allow ample time and distance in order to stop safely when approaching a crosswalk. Drivers should also be aware of vehicles already stopped at crosswalks to allow a pedestrian to cross.
