After three weeks of operation inside a mobile medicine van, the Samaritan Walk-in Clinic opened on Thursday, Dec. 20, in its more long-term location next to the Center for Health Education, 740 SW Ninth St., in Newport. The clinic is housed inside a white, one-story building with a ramp on the front.
To prepare for the next phase of the new hospital construction project, the modular building had to be moved from its previous location. This process required three weeks to disassemble, move and reassemble the unit, and to connect utility and technology services. The clinic will remain in this new location at least until after the new hospital project is complete, in early 2020.
The walk-in clinic serves patients with urgent care needs seven days a week. As a walk-in health care facility, clinic staff treat acute medical conditions that are hurting right now, such as sore throat, ear infection/pain, minor cuts or burns, muscle strains and cold or flu symptoms. Additionally, walk-in care is a good choice if one’s regular primary care clinician’s office is closed or when waiting for the next available appointment is not an option.
Patients can access Newport’s walk-in clinic Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The phone number for the clinic remains the same at 541-574-4860.
