Upon arrival, officers from the Newport Police Department discovered a white Mercedes SUV had been traveling southbound on North Coast Highway and struck a pedestrian crossing the highway in a designated crosswalk. The pedestrian was later transported by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital in Newport where he was listed in stable, but serious condition.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Police say the driver was NOT impaired.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for Failure to stop and remain stopped for a pedestrian.
