MATT SPANGLER WILL DISCUSS “THE EVOLUTION OF NEWPORT” AT THE NOV. 3 MEETING OF THE LINCOLN COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
Matt Spangler, Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, will present “The Evolution of Newport”. His presentation focuses on the economic development of Newport over time, from its early roots as a tourist destination through the development of fishing and wood products to the present as a marine hub. His presentation will be of particular interest to local citizens whose family history in the area traces back multi-generations.
Matt Spangler is the Senior Coastal Policy Analyst for the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD). Prior to joining DLCD in 2009, he worked for many years as a local government land use planner on the coast, including more than 20 years as the Planning and Development Director for Lincoln County. Mr. Spangler is a graduate of Whitman College, in Environmental Studies and Sociology.
His presentation will be held at the Toledo Public Library (Downstairs Meeting Room) 173 NW Seventh Street, 10 am – 12 noon.
The Lincoln County Genealogical Society reaches out to encourage and instruct members in research, sharing, compiling and publishing genealogical materials. LCGS has a large resource collection at the Toledo Library. LCGS also has a website and Facebook account at the Lincoln County Genealogical Society. Membership is open to anyone interested in genealogy and history. The public in invited to attend and participate.
