A display of the 2015 International Challenge Art Quilt Show will be at the Yachats Commons, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday October 27 & 28. The theme is World Fairy Tales. Admission is a suggested donation of $5.00.
This exhibit features works of 90 art quilters from the USA, Japan and France, each representing one of 30 Fairy Tales in a piece of fiber art. The result is 90 small quilts, hung vertically on panels for each Fairy Tale, so viewers can compare the work of one nation to the next. The art quilts have been exhibited in Japan and France, and are now touring the US. A large number of the US quilts have been made by fiber artists from the Pacific Northwest, including Yachats artist Ruth Bass. Bass said, “We have an international exhibit of art quilts coming to Yachats, with many pieces that would be worthy of any museum collection. One of the goals of the show is to introduce art quilting to local residents as well as visitors to the area. Art quilts do not typically follow the patterns used in traditional quilting. Instead, artists use fabric and other materials to build conceptual creations based on a theme, design or simply the artist’s imagination.”
The quilts will be on display Saturday and Sunday, October 27-28, 2018, from 10 am to 4 pm at 441 Hwy 101 N. Admission is by suggested donation of $5.
