GOEBEL FOR MAYOR OF NEWPORT
On behalf of the endorsement committee of Oregon League of Conservation Voters Lincoln County, I encourage voters to choose Dietmar Goebel as mayor of Newport. Dietmar is a member of the Newport community as a renowned architect and as a dedicated volunteer and public servant. He has been a member of the city budget committee, city planning commission, and is currently a city councilor.
His platform includes support of education, performing and visual arts, new housing options, small businesses and job creation, enhancement of livability in the city, and addressing the local impact of climate change.
Dietmar has a solid grasp of environmental problems facing our city, including water shortages, Class A sludge disposal, and re-using buildings while following safe disposal of asbestos and lead-containing materials. He supports converting city vehicles to all electric to lower fossil fuel use and reduce greenhouse gases. He sees the need for seismic and tsunami updates of Bayfront structures to support the fishing industry and tourism.
Dietmar is an advocate for updating codes and requiring long-range planning when building in low lands affected by ocean impacts. He supports public acquisition of watershed lands and sustainable forest practices to ensure clean, safe drinking water.
Dietmar is a thoughtful, open-minded individual who promotes transparency in government and listening to and including all citizens in public discussion and decisions. To quote him: “I believe in family, commitment, community, inclusion, consensus building, diversity, responsible action, accountability, hard work, kindness, generosity…but above all LOVE OF NEIGHBOR.”
Please join Oregon League of Conservation Voters in voting Dietmar Goebel mayor of Newport.
