A series of intermittent closures will take place in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA) South Jetty and Siltcoos areas from October 17-21. A crew of Marine Corps Reserves will engage in training with heavy equipment and perform general maintenance in select campgrounds and recreation sites. Visitors to the area are encouraged to use caution as they may encounter heavy equipment and road flaggers.
A portion of roadway and two parking areas on South Jetty Road will be temporarily closed for maintenance. The parking lot at the South Jetty #6 crab dock and the end of South Jetty Road at the jetty will be closed to vehicles while workers remove sand and repair road surfaces. Visitors may park at the South Jetty #7 parking area and access the crab dock and beach by foot. Heavy equipment will also be repairing OHV trail access near Goosepasture Staging Area and may have that portion of South Jetty Road limited to one lane with flaggers while this work is completed.
Heavy equipment work will also take place on the dunes between Siltcoos and South Jetty, including repairs to Incinerator and Coast Guard OHV trails, clearing sand from OHV access points and clearing encroaching vegetation from sand camps and other areas for safety and visibility. Hazard trees will be removed in Carter Lake, Waxmyrtle and Lagoon Campgrounds. This is a unique opportunity for Marines to train with heavy equipment in partnership with the Forest Service.
