Toledo City Hall may see a decrease in political noise after the November 6th election…

Toledo City Hall

But in the end, Umpire and City Manager Craig Martin provided the direction to resolve major changes on the council with a clear glide-slope going in to the November election.

The official reading of the results of the city council recall election forced Mayor Billie Jo Smith, and Councilors Terri Strom and Deane Dunlap to get up and vacate their seats. That left Councilors Michele Johnson, Bill Dalby, Josh Smith and Jackie Kaufman to carry on with city business.

The November 6th election will determine how the vacancies will be filled. Running to fill the vacancies are immediate past Mayor Billie Jo Smith who will be running against former Mayor Rod Cross. For the three vacant City Councilor seats Terri Strom, Michele Johnson, Bill Dalbey, Betty Kamikawa and Judith Jukich will the vying for votes.

It’s been a tough year for the Toledo City Council, if not Toledo City Hall itself. In what can only be described as a less than pleasant shake-up of City Hall in which the Clerk Recorder, Finance Director, and Fire Chief all departed the city over varying disputes that carry on to this day.

The next election should help to settle things down and get all city oars back in the water.
