From David Peltier – Homeless advocate
Our project, Shalom House, is now nearing seven years in formation. We are seeking a donated high quality motorhome to upgrade our facility. We need help to link with an existent 501(C)3 non-profit structure so that we can help a donor with a tax write-off.
Our project aims to assist women and children as well as disabled veterans. Our work will be to assist folks to find employment and housing. The need for affordable housing and human services in Lincoln County is growing. We now have 1000 homeless children enrolled in the Lincoln County School District – up from 944 earlier this year.
We are working to gather political support for our friends and colleagues at the Lincoln City Warming Shelter in the old fire department building in the Taft section of Lincoln City. We are working to get Community Development Block Grant(CDBG) money from HUD to finance the important work for our friends in Lincoln City.
Rentals are almost non-existent in Lincoln County. The cost of rents are increasing for working men and women. We are in critical need to have overnight stay for homeless folks at a decent facility. Please contact your Board of Lincoln County Commissioners at: (541)265-4100 and ask them to help us create shelter for our people.
