From the Lincoln City Public Works Department
4:30pm Friday
Sewer Release due to broken pipe
From the early morning of September 18th to about 3:30pm September 21st, sewage was released to Schooner Creek at river mile one due to a broken 24-inch pipe.
The estimated amount of overflow is 2.1 million gallons. The sewer pipe has been isolated is no longer spilling sewage into the creek.
The discharge was flowing in the creek downstream from the Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Bay. The affected area is posted and we have notified the Media including radio stations.
The City notified appropriate personnel at Oregon Emergency Response and the Department of Environmental Quality.
Everyone should avoid Schooner Creek and where it flows into and along the north and south shores of Siletz Bay including both sides of the Salishan Spit until the all clear has been issued by a city or state agency.
