Lincoln City Community Center closure extended
The Lincoln City Community Center will remain closed through Sunday, Sept. 23 due to delays in the gym floor refinishing project and other unforeseen maintenance issues.
“We deeply regret this inconvenience to our loyal patrons,” Gail Kimberling, director, said. “However, in the best interests of customer safety we found it necessary to extend the building closure for another week.”
The closure is mainly due to dust and fumes from the gym floor refinishing project, which was needed due to continued effects from flooding in 2016. At that time an errant ball hit and broke a sprinkler head which spilled close to 2,000 gallons of water on the gym floor. Although the floor was refinished several months later, lingering moisture below the floor caused additional warping.
On the pool side, maintenance staff discovered extra work was needed on several critical pumps. The extended closure will provide time for staff to address these issues and prevent future problems.
Community Center customers with four-week, three-month and annual passes may request an extension on their membership to compensate for the inconvenience of the extended closure.
“Sometimes, even with the best-laid plans, things go awry and you have to make the best of the situation. I want to personally extend my thanks to all of our customers for their understanding and patience,” Kimberling said.
