Family Promise of Lincoln County is 4 years old! With the support of our community we have been able to have 81 families, equaling 252 people come into our program. Our mission is to alleviate child homelessness by mobilizing the community to provide shelter, meals, and more as families work to obtain housing. These families are given the opportunity to have a safe place to sleep thanks to the many different churches that commit several weeks out of the year to open their doors and give help to some of the most vulnerable among us.
Experiencing homelessness can easily happen to any of us, most families in this community are only one paycheck or car repair away from financial disaster. The love and support our volunteers give is vital for the chance to get stable and be self-sufficient again. It is also part of the healing process from the trauma of being homeless.
Thanks to the partnerships of other agencies or businesses and the many dedicated volunteers we are able to provide a variety of life skills classes that include topics such as parenting, parenting with special needs children, cooking classes, stress and coping management, financial literacy, employment skills and resume and one on one budget development for long term success. These life skills classes are often open to the community and free to attend, you can find updated information on our Facebook and website www.familypromiseoflincolncounty.org.
These skills often help break the cycle of generational poverty and are vital to lasting success. Once a family graduates into their own home, we still provide a year of after care services to help negotiate any potential speedbumps that come up. With over 80% of our graduated families successfully maintaining their housing is a testament to the support and commitment of not just the families but also the volunteers to build a stronger healthier community.
