Newport Police responded to a condominium complex on NW Alpine Street sunday evening on a report of an armed robbery. The caller reported that a man with a handgun had forced his way into a residence and told the occupants to get out.
Officers arrived and surrounded the residence. They observed the suspect was still inside. The suspect fled out a back door toward a nearby vehicle. Officers confronted the suspect as he tried to leave. The suspect was detained and taken into custody. The suspect was identified as Scott Patrick Lemmon, 27, of Newport.
A victim told Police that Lemmon rang their doorbell and when he opened the door Lemmon pressed a handgun against his forehead. Lemmon told the victim and his wife to get out of the residence. Lemmon told the victim he had accomplices outside who would kill them if they called the police.
Officers searched the area and found the toy handgun that Lemmon had used. Officers recovered stolen property from Lemmon including cash, electronics, and car keys from the victim’s residence.
Lemmon was arrested and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Robbery II, Burglary I, Menacing x 2 and Theft 2.
