Oil Spill on the Bayfront on Port Dock 5 early Tuesday morning
Update on the diesel fuel spill: The Coast Guard says the clean up is complete. They say fuel oil always floats to the top where it stays until it evaporates. It does not go down in to the ground or contaminate the nearby groundwater. In this case, as in others, the fuel oil was sucked up by an environmental clean-up company. Approximately 700 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled when a transfer pump overfilled a storage tank – and the fuel cascaded into the bay. The Coast Guard said “The investigation is continuing.”
