In a move that probably surprised many around the county, the former interim director of the Metro Oregon Zoo was selected today on a 4 to 1 vote to assume the job of Interim Director of the Port of Newport. Only Port Commissioner Walter Chuck voted no, but quickly stated he will fully support Teri Dresler as the new interim Port General Manager.
Former Port Manager of many years Don Mann, and the initiator of the Newport International Terminal project, had thrown his hat into the ring seeking to help get the port back on its feet. However, the Port Commission picked Dresler who’s entire career has been with either the Oregon Zoo in Portland, or brief stints at Portland Parks and Oregon Coast Aquarium.
The Port Commission will meet again next Tuesday to take steps in offering Ms. Dresler the job while the port commission begins its recruitment of a permanent port manager.
Former Port Manager Doug Parsons, a veteran of the corporate world, was recently fired by the commission after a very short time on the job. Prior to Parsons, former Port Manager Kevin Greenwood resigned. (Corrected from earlier story) Mr. Greenwood is now the project manager of the rebuild of the largest bridge crossing of the Columbia River – The Hood River Bridge.
