Well, our dedication activities begin next Wednesday, July 18 with our Bloch Talks scheduled from 10 to 12 each day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, July 18, 19 and 20 at the Ernest Bloch installation on the south end of the Ernest Bloch Memorial Wayside. The Bloch Talks will feature Dr. Alexander Knapp and Dr. Frank Geltner informally reviewing the story of The Man from Agate Beach, composer Ernest Bloch, his life, his passions and his music.
Newport Signs installed the new ERNEST BLOCH MEMORIAL WAYSIDE on Wednesday, July 11. Thanks to the City of Newport for covering the cost of the sign. The installation of the monument photos below. Yet to be installed are the special memorial benches and the interpretive sign.
July 13th Kelly Barker, Zen Stone Garden, and Glen Carrier, Tri-Agg, Inc., joined forces to transport the new Ernest Bloch Monument from Seal Rock to the Ernest Bloch Memorial Wayside. Here Kelly is spreading a special product to secure the base of the monument.
In the lower photograph the monument has been lowered onto the adhesive and boards spiked in place to await the setting of the glue. Here you can see its placement on the concrete pad installed and sponsored by the City of Newport. The new monument sits a few feet from the Ernest Bloch Memorial which was dedicated elsewhere in this wayside in 1976, moved to the entrance of the Newport Performing Arts Center in 2008, and now united with the new monument.
Mark your calendars. Plan on attending one of the Bloch Talks, the Saturday morning lecture and musical performance at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center, or the Formal Dedication at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 — at the Ernest Bloch installation at the south end of the ERNEST BLOCH MEMORIAL WAYSIDE.
Hope to see you there.
