At a recent Waldport City Council meeting Councilor Janis Swan announced her early departure from the council, resigning immediately. The council officially declared a councilor vacancy and put it on the November ballot to determine a successor.
There was an announced vacancy on the Waldport Library Board. Waldport resident Jed Hansen sent a letter to the council indicating that he would like to serve on the board. By a unanimous vote, the council appoint Mr. Hansen to the Library Board. Another member of the Library Board, Ms. Hanes, whose term had run out was re-appointed for another year. There was also follow-up council discussion about reminding residents that they can apply to serve on the Library Board as long as they live within the Library District boundaries, which exceed those of the Waldport City Limits.
The council also learned that there has been some Facebook “chatter” about Waldport’s continued traffic speeding problem, as well as big truck jake brake noise. The council decided to deploy a speed monitoring device and to ask ODOT to put up some “No Jake Braking” signs in those areas of town experiencing the noise.
