Newport Police were dispatched to a call of a reckless driver Wednesday evening. Reports said a man in a white Mercury Villager minivan was barreling down Highway 101 headed south, traveling at speeds of around 85 mph down the center lane.
Officer Randall located the vehicle and attempted to perform a traffic stop. The vehicle refused to yield or stop and a pursuit was initiated with the Newport Police Department and assisted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Law Enforcement set out spike strips on Hwy 101 near the Newport Municipal Airport and successfully stopped the vehicle near Ona Beach State Park.
The driver, identified as Eric Hunter Worthey, from South Beach, was taken into custody without further incident and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on the following charges.
* Attempt to elude a Police Officer
* Reckless driving
* Multiple counts of Reckless Endangering Others
No injuries or crashes were report to have occurred during this incident.
