Continuing to make history, the Toledo Lady Boomers Softball team defeated Butte Falls yesterday in the first round of the State playoffs. Led by their pitcher, Senior Mikayla Retherford, the Boomers defeated the Butte Falls Athletics 5-0. Sophomore Kaycie Otis hit an in-the-park home run – not on errors but on the sheer strength and placement of her hit and her unmatched running speed. Every member of the squad contributed to the victory with steadfast defense and no errors. Toledo is the only 2A team from Lincoln County still standing on the road to the championship as the Waldport Irish and Siletz Warriors were both eliminated during games yesterday.
The Toledo Boomers host Bonanza Friday May 25th beginning at 3:30 PM. As the number one seed in all Oregon 2A schools, all playoff games leading up to the championship are played on the Toledo home field. If they advance tomorrow they will play in the semifinals on Tuesday, May 29th, at home. OSAA does require admission to the playoff games – $6 for adults and $4 for kids. Come out and support these girls and be a part of Toledo Boomer history!
