Report of a traffic crash on Highway 18 just west of Van Duzer Wayside. A Ford Traverse (camper van) is off the highway into a ditch. Smoke is coming from the vehicle.
Victims possibly entrapped inside the vehicle. Life Flight is on standby to fly to the crash scene if necessary.
At least one person is trapped inside the vehicle. Vehicle came to rest against an embankment so door cannot be opened.
Regional fire units are moving closer to Lincoln City to enable them to respond to any emergency calls while North Lincoln Firefighters respond to the crash on Highway 18.
Highway is getting backed up quite a ways in both directions.
Two occupants have been pulled from the vehicle. One patient is enroute to the hospital. Another one is being removed from the vehicle. Power pole guy wire(s) have been busted by the impact. Lying on the ground near the vehicle.
One power pole is down with transformer and wires on the ground. Traffic will not be allowed through the crash scene until Pacific Power arrives and takes care of the downed pole. Pacific Power crews are a half-hour away, plus the time to take care of the downed pole and wires. Probably over an hour (1:30pm) before Highway 18 re-opens. Check Google Maps for possible alternate routes.. Looks like Highway 22 on the north or Highway 20 on the south.
Pacific Power has just evaluated the situation and estimates it’ll take 30 minutes to clear the lines and make the highway safe again. Estimated time for re-opening is around 1:30pm.
