Educators Support Measure 21-186
The Lincoln County Education Association announces their support of Public Safety Measure 21-186. As educators, one of our many goals is to ensure school safety. This measure will increase the safety of students in all schools. It adds an additional School Resource Deputy to work with the current School Resource Officers in Newport and Lincoln City for additional coverage in Toledo, Eddyville, Siletz, and Waldport schools.
It will also increase the number of deputies who are “on the road” and available to respond to emergencies. Perfect examples of this were the responses to the school threats at Eddyville Charter School on May 3rd and the Taft incident on February 9. These incidents require extensive resources and coordination to ensure the safety of our children and staff. While these situations involving the safety of our children and staff could have had a very different outcome, the Sheriffs Office and school officials provided excellent assistance and they had a positive outcome.
This measure will also address correcting and preventing criminal behavior to reduce crime, which we fully support. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We know that evidence based practices work and this comprehensive approach will deliver positive results in our community.
We, the Teachers of the Lincoln County School District, are proud to support Measure 21-186.
