Lincoln County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the report of a male displaying a gun on the street in Depoe Bay. Witnesses reported the male covered his head and face while displaying the gun; it was believed at that time he may be preparing to rob a local store while standing outside the building.
During the response, deputies were advised the male walked away from the store, crossing Highway 101 from East to West then abruptly reversing course returning to his original location. Additional witnesses reported the armed male was causing a hazard to traffic on the highway.
Responding deputies located the male on the West side of Highway 101 near NW Sunset Street. The male, 49 year old Kim Nye of Newport was detained at gun point while additional law enforcement officers responded to the scene. Nye was taken into custody on the charge of Disorderly Conduct. In the process of a standard safety search of Nye a black “BB Gun” handgun was located on his person.
Highway 101 was briefly closed in both directions during the incident. No injuries were reported.
Kim Nye was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on the charge of Disorderly Conduct; his bail was set at $10,000.
