The Depoe Bay City Council this week further opened the gate for a housing development aimed at upper income buyers – The Hills of Depoe Bay development at the north end of town, east of 101. The council gave a nod to phase 1, involving up to twenty new homes over the next two years. There is also included a multi-family residential portion of the project.
City officials say, like any housing development, the rate of construction will be driven by demand for homes in this particular spot on the coast.
What’s in a name?
The council sometime back agreed to rename the extension of Lillian Lane (off Hwy 101) on the north end of town to Ascent Drive, “because after all, you’re going uphill.” But after thinking things over, residents changed their mind. They decided they’d rather keep the street name that starts at the intersection of Lillian and Highway 101 all the way up the hill to avoid confusing motorists, since the name change created a continuous street with two names.
