Dear Lincoln County,
My name is Kaety Jacobson and I am running for Lincoln County commissioner, position 3.
I was born and raised in Lincoln County. They say it takes a village to raise a child. You were my village, and you did an excellent job. Growing up in this beautiful place gave me a love for the environment, which led me to OSU for a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources. Later it was followed by a Master’s degree in Coastal Zone Management from Nova Southeastern University.
I’ve spent the last 15 years working for OSU as a fisheries extension agent in Lincoln County. In this capacity, I’ve worked with fishermen, scientists, elected officials, agencies, conservation groups, and coastal communities in Oregon and beyond. I facilitate, educate, collaborate, evaluate, write grants, design public process, and solve problems. The role of an extension agent is to be in the community and some of my most innovative project ideas came from conversations with people in the grocery store.
I have also been a foster parent in Lincoln County for 6 years. Every social issue we face in this county I have been exposed to as a foster parent; Addiction, mental illness, homelessness, food security, generational poverty, abuse and neglect. Holding an infant that is withdrawing from drugs, changes you. It just does. Being a foster parent has also exposed me to the amazing network of non-profits and people that we have in this county, people with huge hearts and courageous spirits.
It is for my love of this place and for the people of Lincoln County that I decided to run for county commissioner. I have a lot more to offer this county and am excited to have a broader set of issues to work on and more access to all of you. I believe it is time for fresh leadership and a fresh perspective on the both the issues and opportunities facing our county.
As a County Commissioner I will advocate for our vulnerable populations, working to increase our capacity to serve those in need. Our environment is also facing challenges and I believe it is time (maybe past time) to create a comprehensive strategy for adapting to and mitigating climate change. I also believe in listening to all of you, and I do mean all of you, those in the North County, South County, East County, those living in the county seat, and those living in the places in between.
I have learned in my work with cooperative extension that the true expertise in any subject is always in the community. I believe we can come together to work on the issues facing this county and to go after the opportunities for our future.
To all my family, friends, and supporters, thank you for your enthusiasm, confidence, and your vote. For those of you that don’t know me or who aren’t sure who you are voting for, you can learn more about me on my website firstname.lastname@example.org or on Facebook at Elect Kaety Jacobson.
