Our beloved county, Lincoln is moving closer to advancing human services, to help those who are vulnerable and needing basic services. Our community needs affordable housing, transitional housing, easy access housing for seniors, work force housing, and half-way houses. If each of us can contact our elected officials and candidates for office then we can secure federal funding through Housing and Urban Development(HUD). We need all candidates to support Community Development Block Grant(CDBG) money to come into our community to purchase and rehab if necessary a good sized building. We need real, vital, sincere leadership now.
I’ve asked Congressman Kurt Schrader for six years to formulate a bill in congress, the Affordable Housing Act of 2018, to help millions of Americans in thousands of communities. Kurt Schrader shows indifference to the affordable housing issue. Housing is a critical component of a healthy, caring, successful society; our community is hurting, our people suffer when there is no housing. Rentals are sky high now and availability is almost non-existent. Workers need housing. Disabled persons need housing. Etc.
Ultimately, our critical problems here will boil over and we will see another London McCabe tragedy, or another house burn down from squatters(Newport). Lincoln County needs active, positive, thoughtful, compassionate leadership with the Board of Commissioners candidates and incumbents.
We need to advance here or we will see very difficult problems ahead. We need now a partnership with wealthy and powerful people to fund our non-profits better. A person can volunteer some time to these important non-profits to strengthen our human safety net. Please call me if you’d like to help the Shalom House project. I’ll be happy to refer you to non-profits in your community. 541-270-2442 We can do this!
