The Seattle Times is reporting that NOAA research vessel Rainier stumbled a bit while navigating its way to its Seattle moorage.
The Seattle-Times reports that the Rainier was proceeding through the Montlake Cut between Lake Union and Lake Washington, when it apparently veered off course a bit, scraped the bottom of the canal and sideswiped a concrete barrier. The Seattle-Times reported one of the ship’s propellers was damaged and that there were visible scrape marks along the hull below the water line. The newspaper said the hull was not breached.
What set of circumstances contributed to the accident is still being investigated.
