Vote YES for Measure 21-186!
I recently had a conversation with a close friend who questioned whether our tax dollars are used efficiently to operate government. It’s a justifiable concern many citizens share. Measure 21-186 is a perfect example of the efficiency you SHOULD expect when asked to support a measure for public safety or any other government service.
21-186 is a very comprehensive approach to producing a positive effect on the criminal justice system in Lincoln County. It provides additional deputies to provide 24/7 patrols for all of Lincoln County. It will allow the hiring of a drug detective to focus on drug and drug related crimes such as thefts, frauds and burglaries. The measure will provide for additional inmate counseling to assist those with mental illness and substance abuse problems, additional corrections deputies to restart inmate work crews in our community, and a program coordinator and jail cook to provide job skills training while inmates are incarcerated. That way we return a better investment into our community upon their release.
One of the most important components of this measure is the addition of a Pretrial Justice Program. This program will allow us to hire release coordinators using state-of-the-art assessment tools to reduce the forced release of inmates due to overcrowding. In other words, this will keep more serious offenders in jail while releasing low-risk offenders that will be supervised and closely tracked until their arraignment date in court.
These services, along with other support service investments provided in this measure, are geared to reduce our crime and recidivism rates and increase our safety. This IS an efficient use of our tax dollars. I urge you to join me in voting YES on 21-186. Let’s get Smart on Crime!
