Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital Auxiliary pledges $35,000 to support new hospital cafeteria
In its first general membership meeting of 2018, Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital Auxiliary pledged $35,000 to support the creation of an enhanced cafeteria in the new hospital. Of that amount, the group has already raised $20,000 toward their commitment.
“We’re delighted by this significant gift from our hospital volunteers,” said Ursula Marinelli, executive director, Pacific Communities Health District Foundation. “With their help, we will have a well-equipped new kitchen and cafeteria when the new hospital project is complete.”
The hospital foundation is tasked with raising $1 million to purchase equipment and art for the new hospital. This amount is above and beyond the $10 million being invested by Samaritan Health Services, a nonprofit health care provider, for new furniture, fixtures and equipment.
When the existing two-story hospital is renovated during the second phase of the new hospital project, the cafeteria will undergo a major transformation. It will double in size, with updated kitchen equipment and comfortable, roomy seating that overlooks the hospital’s healing garden. The SPCH Auxiliary is helping to fund this transformation.
Supporting the new hospital is one of many projects of the SPCH Auxiliary. Since 2011, the SPCH Auxiliary has donated $289,320 toward hospital operations, equipment purchases and scholarships for staff and students. The group raises money from gift shop proceeds and special sales throughout the year.
