Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies successfully completed a safety belt enforcement campaign aimed primarily at increasing safety belt and correct child safety seat use, enforcement of speed laws, and texting while driving. The blitz took place in February.
The local enforcement blitz was part of an effort funded by The Oregon Department of Transportation and involved several other law enforcement agencies. In addition to the blitz, grant funds were utilized during the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival with emphasis on intoxicated driver detection.
During the enforcement blitz Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies made a total of 65 enforcement contacts including one arrest for DUII. During Seafood and Wine Festival deputies made 54 enforcement contacts and one DUII arrest
Additional safety belt enforcement blitzes are scheduled for May and August of 2018.
