So you’ve been thinking about getting yourself one of those flying cameras, if only just to see what you can see?! The Yaquina Art Association Photographers (YAAP) will meet on March 5 at 7 p.m. at the Newport Visual Arts Center to shed some light and a little levitation on matter.
Master Photographer Vern Bartley will give a presentation on Drone Photography: How to Fly Legally and Safely for both hobbyists and commercial drone pilots. Drones are proving to be one of the fastest growing technological resources to appear in the past few decades. Drones are being employed over a range of services including emergency responders, construction, agriculture, science, industry, military, real estate, and advertising.
The FAA has structured Rules and Regulations to help ensure that drones and regular aircraft don’t get in each others’ way. Bartley will detail how any drone pilot can be part of the solution rather than the problem.
Bartley will also talk about the upcoming Cascadia Traveling Photography Exhibit, a competition that chose his image, Yaquina Head Nebula, as one of 48 photos in their exhibit. The opening reception for the Cascadia show will be on April 6th in Baker City, and it will travel to The Dalles and Corvallis later in the year.
YAAP meets twice a month at the Visual Arts Center, on the first and third Mondays of the month. Its mission is to encourage and help members to share, teach, learn, and grow as photographers. For more information, go to their website at www.yaaphotographers.org.
