An Evening with Fred Wells: A Farewell Concert at Driftwood Public Library
Fred Wells has been a resident of Lincoln City since 2010, and has been a devoted patron of Driftwood Public Library that whole time. On Wednesday, February 28th, as a gift to Lincoln City, Fred will be performing a free farewell concert at 6:00 p.m. at the Library.
Local Library users may be familiar with Fred’s music from his past performances at the library’s Winter Solstice celebrations. A mixture of blues, Celtic and acoustic crossroads music, Fred’s guitar-playing and singing have impressed audiences these past two years, and many have asked when we’ll have him back.
Locals may recognize Fred’s playing from local bands One Way Out and The Water Brothers. He has also hosted his own open mic sessions at Nauti Mermaid, as well as other locations throughout Lincoln County. Fred has been a performer for close to 45 years, half of that touring and recording professionally.
Fred grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and finished high school in the San Francisco Bay Area. He then lived in Hawaii, where he played in various bands before returning to California where he gigged extensively as he gained experience as a musician. He has also worked in landscaping and construction, recycling, and as an account executive in telecommunications in Silicon Valley in the 80s. In addition to being a performer, he is also a music teacher.
Fred first met his wife Sharon in 2008, and moved to Lincoln City in 2010 to marry her and settle here. After seven years in Oregon, the two are relocating to Arizona this Spring, partly for a change in climate for health reasons. They have enjoyed their time in Lincoln City, and are sad that they will be leaving such a beautiful area and all the friends they’ve made here, but they will be returning occasionally to see grandchildren in the area.
Driftwood Public Library is located on the second floor of the Lincoln City City Hall building at 801 SW Highway 101 in Lincoln City (on the west side of the highway, adjacent to McKay’s Market, and across the street from Burger King). Any questions regarding the concert can be directed to the Circulation Supervisor, Ken Hobson, at 541-996-1242 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
