One of the first things new Central Coast Fire Chief Gary Woodson put on his plate last year was making local disaster preparedness organizations even better. So he brought together the three south county Community Emergency Response Teams – Yachats CERT, Waldport CERT and Seal Rock CERT. Chief Woodson convinced them that they could all be more effective working together during a natural disaster than being “out there” on their own. The three groups agreed, deciding to consolidate their three individual programs into one effective coordinated organization.
Chief Woodson then helped everyone begin to recruit new friends and neighbors to join the “3 in 1” CERT organization and to establish training programs – with Lynda Engle and Linda Carskaden being co-Captains. New CERT team members train to be medically adept at providing first aid to the injured – learning how to secure damaged utilities, put out fires and search for missing persons. And to be self-organized.
Woodson says those who live in Seal Rock, Waldport and Yachats and who would like to be human solutions to natural disasters can call Central Coast Fire Chief Gary Woodson at 541-563-3121. Or on his cellphone at 541-969-1401. It’s a great opportunity to be a member of a well run, life-saving group of dynamic neighbors. You can also call Captain Lynda Engle at 541-563-3835.
