Food Share of Lincoln County received $30,000 in grant funds from the Janet M. Bailey Fund, Schamp Family Fund, Oneatta Fund and the Grasmajeto Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation.
The mission of The Oregon Community Foundation is to improve lives for all Oregonians through the power of philanthropy. OCF works with individuals, families, businesses and organizations to create charitable funds to support the community causes they care about. Through these funds, in 2016 OCF awarded more than $100 million in grants and scholarships.
The funds were awarded in support of the future purchase of a refrigerated truck to transport perishable food from local grocery partners and to program agency sites. Each month approximately 1700 families access a food pantry or hot meal site in Lincoln County. In 2017, Food Share distributed over 1 million pounds of food and reduced food waste by recovering nearly 160,000 pounds of fresh nutritious food from local grocery and food industry partners.
The purchase of a refrigerated truck will ensure the safety and quality of the food in transport and will help FSLC meet its goal of launching six new produce distributions throughout its service area.
