The Lincoln County Master Gardener™ Association kicks off its 2018 Gardener’s Roundtable Series with a discussion of soil amendments and their important contributions to soil health. Amendments are strategic to building and sustaining biologically active soils that result in healthier and more efficient food production. This session will cover types of compost, compost teas, essential minerals, balancing nitrogen inputs, and testing to determine soil improvement levels. Join us to learn about soil nutrients, enzymes and other options available for specific soil issues.
The Building Healthy Soils session will be held on Jan 25, 2018 from 10 am to 12pm at Samaritan Center for Health Education, 740 SW 9th Street, Newport, OR 97365.
Call the LCMGA office at 541-574-6534, ext. 57410 or go to orcoastmga.org/roundtable to reserve a seat. Your RSVP ensures we have adequate seating and handouts. Attendance is free but donations to offset facility fees are welcome.
The session will be lead by Harry MacCormack, co-founder and first executive director of Oregon Tilth and president of Ten River Food Web. Harry has seen first hand the need and benefits of soil amendments in his 46 years as an organic vegetable and fruit farmer. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to interact with this dynamic and passionate local grower who is willing to share his personal experiences with Oregon coastal soils.
Attendees will have the opportunity to place orders for the Ten Rivers soil amendments sale.
The 2018 Roundtable Series takes place each 2nd and 4th Thursday from Jan 25 to May 10 and resumes again in the Fall from August 8 to October 25. Go to the LCMGA website at orcoastmga.org/roundtable for a full list of topics and locations.
