Sign-making party for Resist & Persist March which is Sunday; route announced
NEWPORT—Organizers of the upcoming Resist & Persist: Women’s March of Lincoln County will host a sign-making party Sunday, Jan 14th from noon to 4 pm at Apple Tree, 1605 N. Coast Hwy. The public is invited and encouraged to bring their own supplies.
“The sign-making was a fun event last year,” said Rhonda Harman of Newport, the emcee for the Stronger Together March 2017 which drew nearly 1,700 people.
Gathering for the march will start at Newport City Hall at 11:30 am Saturday, January 20. After introductory remarks, the march will head out at noon to the grandstands at Newport High School. Carpooling is highly recommended. The local group is marching this year to “Resist patriarchy, corruption and oppression and to Persist for democracy, equality and truth.”
Shirts & hoodies to commemorate the event will be for sale at Canyon Way in Newport and Red Roof Bakery in Gleneden Beach. They may also be available at the day of the march.
Organizers are a coalition of NOW members, members of the Diversity Committee of Lincoln County, PFLAG and the Lincoln County Democratic Central Committee. They stress that anyone interested in preserving our democracy, equality and human rights come join the march.
The march is in solidarity with other women’s marches in cities across the country for similar objectives including the “MeToo” movement. The local group has a facebook page at: www.facebook.com/ ResistPersistMarch
