Oregon’s former first lady Cylvia Hayes violated state ethics laws, according to an investigation by the Oregon Ethics Commission, making their announcement on Wednesday.
The commission ruled that she broke laws that forbid state officials from using their positions for personal gain by accepting gifts and failing to properly handle conflicts of interest.
Her fiance, former Gov. John Kitzhaber, resigned in early 2015 amid allegations of influence peddling that the commission found related to her contracting. Kitzhaber faces an ongoing investigation by the same commission
